In May 2016, on the recommendation of Micheál Martin TD, I was nominated to the 25th Seanad by An Taoiseach.
It has been a great privilege to serve as an independent Senator over the last year. In that time, I have sought to use this ‘gift’ to build cross party alliances and commitments for the causes that have shaped my life’s work. This includes advancing the rights of and supports for people with dementia, people who are homeless, women and children, people with disabilities, the Travelling community and other marginalised groups.
I would be delighted to receive your feedback on my work in the Seanad so far, which is outlined in these pages. I would also welcome your ideas on the issues you think should shape my agenda for the year ahead, which you can send to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Finally, I would like to thank my family, friends, and colleagues for their support. I would also like to thank Martin Groves and his team in the Seanad Office, Colm O’Rourke and the other ushers, and my assistant Pádraig Rice for all their work and support.
